The Braemar Gathering: Scotland, the Highland Games, and the Braemar Gathering is a cultural book focusing on the rich Scottish culture surrounding the Cairngorms and Braemar area, traditional tartan pattern and kilts, and the Highland games. This book is the culmination of my ADS 341 course, where we focused on editorial design. A goal of mine for this project was to push myself out of my usual aesthetic by using Adobe Photoshop to edit photography and create collages using ephemera of the Braemar Gathering from the games' official archive.

Concept Development
The book did not truly take shape until I found the official Braemar Gathering's archive of game results, news snippets, and old photographs. The photographs inspired me to lean towards a collage aesthetic, which is something that I have never tried before. I utilized a lot of white space to encourage the viewer to focus on the imagery that went along with the text. To tie everything together, I drew Braemar Gathering and Scottish iconography to scan into Adobe Illustrator, vectorized the drawings, and placed them into the booklet. The hand-drawn texture is my personal favorite "final touch."
